Recently, however, more automakers have changed to rotors which are lighter in weight and slimmer to cut down weight and help save dollars. Discs used to last through two or a few resurfacings, but don't be shocked if when ever it's time to replace the pads you happen to be told you also need brand new rotors. The current ones may not have enough material in order to be shaved off in resurfacing and even may not be exactly as sturdy as those from, say, 5 or more years in the past. In addition, service businesses are unlikely to resurface rotors since it increases time to a project and the quality of the work might vary by what person does it and how good they are. As an alternative, it is faster, much easier and also more rewarding for repair service shops to be able to just install new rotors along with completely new pads.
